The Best Ways to Detox

Here's Dr. J on the best ways to detox your body.

We're talking about what’s in your environment, what organs are involved in detox, and the best safe and natural ways to detox the body.

It's important to nourish the body from the inside out.

Getting toxins out of the body can protect you from disease.

How does detox work?

Everything that comes into your body has to be processed. Toxins are processed and eliminated through the liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs, and lymphatic system. When these organs are congested they do not get rid of impurities efficiently.

Detoxification can be improved by...

  1. Resting and helping the organs through fasting
  2. Stimulating the liver and kidneys to drive toxins out of the body
  3. Promoting elimination through the intestines
  4. Pulling out toxins through the skin
  5. Improving circulation
  6. Refueling the body with healthy nutrients

You may need to detox if you have….

  • Unexplained fatigue
  • Skin rashes or irritated skin
  • Sluggish elimination (constipation)
  • Puffy eyes
  • Bloating
  • Menstrual irregularities
  • Allergies
  • Low-grade infection
  • Brain fog

Lighten your toxic loads by avoiding things like alcohol, coffee, smoking, refined sugar, saturated fats, and artificial ingredients.

Avoid personal care products and cleaners with chemicals. Substitute natural alternatives

Stress in large amounts can release hormones that slow down the body’s detoxification processes. Rest and reset your physical reactions to the stresses in life. We all have stress, but you have to know how to manage it.

There are many different types of detoxification programs. It’s important to find the right one for you.

Ways to help the body detox:

  • Eat plenty of fiber
  • Include lots of fruits and veggies in your diet
  • Dandelion root, milk thistle, green tea, and vitamin C help to detox the liver. Glutathione is a liver compound that helps to get toxins and poisons out of the system
  • Drink a lot of water - about 1 gallon per day
  • Breathe deeply and get more oxygen
  • Hydrotherapy: alternating hot and cold shower
  • Dry brush skin
  • Foot bath detox
  • Exercise is one of the most important ways to detox, and get your body to sweat for 30-60 minutes: yoga, walking, cycling, jump rope, etc.

When done correctly detoxification can promote health and help prevent disease.

Detoxing needs to be done correctly. In certain circumstances, you should not detox. You should always consult your healthcare provider before starting a detox regimen.
